Specialities

Several kinds of local specialities are on offer at MuFIm. These products derive from traditional or industrial practices, and recount the history of craftsmanship, taste, regional products and their production methods, including advertising, packaging and standards. Products include chocolates, confectionery, condiments, beer and coffee, to name a few.

In 2016, Belgium’s beer culture was included on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The MuFIm showcases beer through the work of historic breweries (particularly the Lion and Carbonnelle breweries) and those still in operation in Tournai and Picardy Wallonia, with examples of beers brewed in Silly, Ath, Belœil, Leuze, Brunehaut, Mouscron, Comines-Warneton and the Pays des Collines.

Chips are of course a feature of the museum, thanks in no small part to a remarkable mobile chip shop. This handcart and its cutting and frying equipment are considered to be one of the oldest examples of a “baraque à frites” mobile chip vendor.
