The forge

The forge space has been deliberately maintained as it was originally, with no objects added or removed, in order to keep alive the memory of a museum practice as it was until the 1960s. At that time, the reconstructions were idealised reconstructions with mannequins dressed in 19th or early 20th century clothes. The narrow forge room with the bellows contains a series of tools which were characteristic of the blacksmith's trade, as well as horseshoes. A large number of the items on display come from Eugène Henry's forge on the Quai Notre-Dame.
